Do Not Mow

Do Not Mow

In the long stripe of grass
between the road and the field,
rubber ducky yellow heads
of sunflowers, a whole crowd
of them, and on either side
of the flowers, facing the road,
feeble white sign with an arrow
pointing toward the flowers,
warning, Do Not Mow.
So great is that temptation
that we feel, our bladed machines
straining toward all this yellow
in need of protection from us.
